A Craft of Matter



Atelier Maus is a creative studio specializing in high-end, handcrafted lighting made in France. We craft unique pieces—table lamps, wall sconces, and pendant lights—born from the fusion of patinated steel and natural stone veneer (slate, marble, mica).

Our work is inspired by the purity of form and the natural beauty of raw materials. We strive for minimalist lines that elevate the authenticity, depth, and richness of stone and steel.

We create lighting designed to interact with your space: to illuminate, structure, stage, reveal the material, and convey emotion.

Each creation stems from a functional requirement and a collaborative dialogue between metal and stone.
Our lighting is not mass-produced. The work of a single artisan at the workbench, each piece is designed, crafted, and adjusted to bring a unique soul to your interior.

Quand nous avons visité l'atelier Maus, Stéphane nous a expliqué les différentes étapes de la fabrication d'une lampe, les matériaux utilisés et les techniques mises en œuvre pour sa réalisation, nous étions sous le charme ! Une petite hésitation avec le modèle Cassini mais la Halley est parfaite pour notre salon. La beauté générale de la lampe, les matériaux surprenants, surtout la feuille de pierre pour l'abat-jour, les finitions, le rendu lumineux dans la pièce, tout nous plaît ! Même quand elle n'est pas allumée ! Vraiment ravi de ce choix, de ce côté unique et artisanal. Le délai entre la commande et la livraison du coup se comprend très bien, c'est du fait main ! On adore !

Le plus difficile pour moi a été de choisir le modèle parmi ceux proposés. Au final, je suis contente de mon choix et le rendu dans mon salon est canon : c'est à la fois élégant, moderne et chaleureux. Natural materials, original patinas, and exceptional components


All our pieces are handmade, using patinated steel and natural stone (slate, marble, mica), combined with standardized electrical components manufactured in Europe, for lighting that is at once expressive, durable, and safe.

    Steel

    The lamp bases and metal lampshades are created from raw carbon steel.

    Patinas are created by chemical and thermal oxidation and by metallization.

    Steel is surprisingly unpredictable in the formation of its patina. The composition of its alloys, the exposure temperature, the ambient humidity, and the degree of corrosion all contribute to sculpting the surface. Intense heat can alter the hues, while high humidity accelerates oxidation, creating varied textures.

    These cumulative interactions generate nuances, spots and iridescence that make every square centimeter of steel absolutely unique.

    He possesses an artistic soul and a deeply expressive character.

    Stone Leaf

    Natural stone veneer is an innovation in the field of decoration.

    The slate, mica, or marble blocks used are neither treated nor reconstituted: the block is broken down layer by layer by manual removal. This technique preserves the stone's hues and the natural colors of this exceptional product.

    Translucent stone sheets diffuse light, creating a unique effect. They retain the look and texture of natural stone, adding a touch of luxury and authenticity to any project.

    Electrical components

    The electrification of the lamps is done with quality products, all meeting current French and European standards.

    The cotton-covered cables and sockets are made in Italy. The plugs and switches are made in the European Union .

    These products all have an A+ certification regarding their level of volatile pollutant emissions into the indoor air of a room.
